My Gear
I have three different types of kits that I switch among depending on the situation. One bag features DSLR gear and the other two take advantage of mirrorless cameras. I'll start with the heavy duty kit and work lighter.
All kits include extra batteries, memory cards, lens cleaning cloths, filters etc.
DSLR Kit
This is my go-to kit for environmental portrait assignments, model shoots, complicated events, light sports, and weddings.
- Canon EOS 5D Mark III DSLR
- Canon EOS 70D DSLR
- Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens
- Canon Extender EF 1.4X III
- Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens
- Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM lens
- Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM lens
- Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens
- Canon Speedlite 270EX II
- Canon Speedlite 320EX
- Photoflex MultiDisc Circular Reflector, 5 Surfaces, 32"
- ExpoImaging Rogue Portrait Lighting Kit
- Lowepro Pro Runner 300 AW Backpack
Everyday Mirrorless Kit
When I walk out the door in the morning, this is the kit I have over my shoulder. I can handle most assignments on a moment's notice, yet it's light and compact. This is also excellent gear for travel.
- Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds digital camera
- Panasonic Lumix G X Vario 12-35mm f/2.8 Asph. lens for Micro 4/3
- Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 60mm f/2.8 Macro lens (also a terrific portrait lens)
- Fujifilm X20 digital camera
- Eye-Fi 32GB SDHC Mobi Wireless Class 10 memory card (For the X20 that doesn't have built-in WiFi)
- Olympus FL-300R wireless flash
- MeFOTO DayTrip tripod kit
- Apple 32GB iPad mini with Retina Display (Verizon, Space Gray)
- Lowepro Urban Reporter 150 camera messenger bag (I've modified the insert to go 2/3rds width to allow room for the tripod)
Spectator Mirrorless Kit
Sports and concert arenas have specific requirements for bag sizes and contents. For example, when I attend the Golden State Warriors games at Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA, the maximum length for a lens is 3". Also my shoulder bag can only be a little over a foot wide. So I have to pack specifically for these situations.
- Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds digital camera (I use the optional grip for this camera to make it more comfortable in my hands)
- Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ lens (I have the auto lens cap for this optic)
- Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 75mm f/1.8 lens (This optic is just short of 3" long, but gives me an effective 150mm of reach)
- Apple 32GB iPad mini with Retina Display (Verizon, Space Gray)
- Walking Man shoulder bag
